 The FDA does not review cosmetic products or ingredients before they are put on the shelf. On average an adult uses 10 personal care products a day – 1/3 of them contain one or more possible carcinogens. 89% of the ingredients in beauty care products are unevaluated. The EWG found nearly 400 products sold in the U.S. contain chemicals that are prohibited in cosmetics in other countries. Possible side effects linked to beauty product ingredients: allergies, carcinogens, skin irritation, hormonal disorders, tumors, kidney and liver failure, birth defects and more. People in the beauty industry are 3 TIMES more likely than the average person to develop health problems due to inhalation of chemicals, making it one of the top industries for cancer research.
